A musical guide to early childhood development:
for expectant parents,
and parents of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

    MUSIC ENHANCES NEURAL DEVELOPMENT

Recent research has shown that babies respond to sounds and emotions even before birth They react to  their mother's heartbeat, energy level and feelings. They can hear and resond to sounds in her immediate environment.  Unborn babies react to lively, energetic music or emotion with active movements like kicking.  Gentle, peaceful music will calm and quiet them.

(In instance after instance, parents who listened or played certain music over and over before their babies were born, have found that their infants show increased direct attention when they hear that same  piece of music.)

Music is also proven to enhance neural development from infancy onward.  Children who listen to music as infants and engage in musical play from toddlerhood develop increased numbers of learning pathways in the brain.  Classical music is especially shown to enhance neural growth.

Toddlers and preschoolers are naturally musical:  claping to music, jumping and dancing and singing along with songs on TV or radio or even making up their own.

By developing their natural musical aptitude:
    • You can prepare them to be focused learners
    • Help them develop early neural capacity for strong language and math skills
    • Give them a natural means of expressing their emotions in healthy, creative ways
    • Develop signal songs and games to help them internalize good behavior habits
    • Lay a foundation for musical understanding and achievement
      • The earlier children are introduced  to music in their environment, the more natural ease and facility they have when they begin music lessons at elementary ages.
    • Give children a means for feeling and expressing spiritual ideals of beauty, harmony, and cooperation
